Via Dolorosa | The Way of the Cross
As Jesus carries His cross through the streets of Jerusalem, the people mock and jeer Him. They are fulfilling the Psalm that Jesus would later cry out on the cross and attribute as fulfilled by Him.
King David prophesied the crowd's behavior a thousand years earlier. Psalm 22: "My God, My God, why have you forsaken me..."
King David describes the piercing of Jesus' hands and feet, the casting of lots for His clothing and the insults heaped on Him by the crowds looking on to His pain. However, Psalm 22 concludes in victory, glory to God and salvation to the nations. When it is all over, Jesus will accomplish these very things. (Matt 27:46, Mark 15:34)
