Philippians 2:3

Memorizing and Meditating on Scripture is one of the most important spiritual discipline's God has made available to us. We want you so filled immersed in Scripture that when life cuts you, what you bleed is the Word of God. Check out this devotional to help you toward this goal.

“Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.” – Philippians 2:3

While imprisoned, Paul writes to all the saints in Christ Jesus who are at Philippi to encourage them with the gospel. His words echo what is known today as the Golden Rule, “Do not do to others what you would not like done to yourselves,” – spawning from Jesus’ teachings in Matthew and Luke:

So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.” Matthew 7:12

As children, we are inundated with this moral truth to actively recalibrate our moral compass. We are required to abide by the collective social contract our country or community demands.

“How would you feel if they said that to you?”

“How would you feel if they did that to you?”

“Well, a good Christian wouldn’t do that, would they?”

At face value, “What Would Jesus Do?”, serves as a pleasant reminder to do good and to give until it hurts. But beware that the moralism you live by is not devoid of Christ. Cultural standards and practices often become subject to truthiness, in that that which we feel to be true is right and true.

To counter this, Paul reminds you to seek to live through Christ’s example as the magnetic force guiding the compass.

The humility of Christ is motivated through his profound love for us and hatred for sin. By which he chose to become human, to be born in the likeness of men, to take the form of a servant…to the point of death on the Cross, which ultimately ends to glorify of God the Father

As a result of your faith in Christ’s humiliation, resurrection and resultant exaltation, the Holy Spirit illuminates your heart and mind to become one with the Father. Thusly, connecting you to all those with the same heart and mind, to bring glory to God

Take today to remind yourself and others that in the end, it was never about you or us but always about Him.

“For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.” – Philippians 1:21

“Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.”

Philippians 2:3
